Here are the answers to Mitch's Quiz:
- Judy Garland – “Blue Butterfly” from the short “A Holiday in Storyland,” 1929. Seven-year-old Frances Baby Gumm.
-Gladys Knight – “Too Young” on Ted Mack ‘s Original Amateur Hour. She won with this performance in 1952 at the age of seven.
-Bernadette Peters – Juvenile Jury … 1958… she was just ten years old. The idea of this kiddie game show was that one kid has a problem and a jury of her peers tries to solve it. Bernadette’s problem was that she didn’t like riding with her parents in buses because they were too crowded. She wanted them to take her in taxis.
-Connie Francis – “Taking a Chance on Love” – She was a regular on this local NBC kiddie show --“The Star Time Kids”-- in the early 1950’s. Back then she was Concetta Franconero.
-Barbra Streisand – Barbra recorded “Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart” along with “You’ll Never Know” at Nola Recording Studios when she was thirteen years old in 1955. “You’ll Never Know” showed up on her “Just For the Record” album… but “Zing!” has never been released. Barbra wrote about the record: “This scratchy acetate was the kind that would wear out after a couple of dozen plays. Mine sat on a shelf for twenty years before I put it on tape.”
